Red Blood Cells “Erythrocytes”

Our red blood cells are created by the red bone marrow in a process called hemopoiesis. Hemopoiesis is the process by which blood cells are made in the bone marrow. Red bone marrow is also called myeloid tissue. The lifespan of a red blood cell is 120 days. Red blood cells are filtered out of circulation by the liver and spleen once they are no longer useful.

Red blood cells are a big part of what makes up the blood which contain red pigment called hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is red do to iron and aids in the transportation of oxygen and carbon dioxide.They transport oxygen from the lungs to the cells within the body. “On the return trip from transporting oxygen to the cells”, the red blood cells transport carbon dioxide and other waste products. These wastes are formed from metabolic activities of the cells and are flushed to the kidneys, lungs and other organs to be removed from the body.

 Tips To Keep Your Red Blood Cells Healthy:

Eat dark leafy green vegetables.

Eat beans or legumes.

Eat organic foods that have iron,vitamin B-9 “also called folic acid”, vitamin B-12 , copper and vitamin A “also called retinol”.

Use herbs like dandelion, yellow dock roots, ashwagandha, nettle and parsley.
